DeFi Weekly October 2026 Week 3: Interactive Brokers Staking

Portals.fi

The DeFi Weekly October 2026 week 3 snapshot closes with TVL at $89.38B, down 1.92% over seven days. Bitcoin fell 1.01%, Ethereum fell 2.68%, and the Fear & Greed Index registered 63, or Greed.

This week’s lead DeFi story is Interactive Brokers Ethereum staking: the broker launched ETH staking for eligible Interactive Brokers LLC clients. The edition also covers Aave governance’s proposed native-Bitcoin collateral design with Babylon, the CFTC’s crypto-market rulemaking notice, Tether’s EFY Finance investment, and the UNCX Vesting V2 incident.

On the yield front, this edition highlights five live positions on Portals Explorer. The selection rotates away from last week’s exact markets and pairs two distinct Base tokenized-stock strategy wrappers with a principal-token position, a curated USDC vault, and a larger WBTC-backed lending market.

Market Pulse

  • Total Market Cap: $2.76T (-3.62% 24h)
  • DeFi TVL: $89.38B (-1.92% 7d)
  • BTC Price: $81,697 (-1.01% 7d)
  • ETH Price: $2,421 (-2.68% 7d)
  • Gas (ETH): 0.15 Gwei
  • Sentiment: Greed (63)

The DeFi Weekly October 2026 week 3 data reflects a modest seven-day contraction in both deposited capital and major-asset prices.

The cross-chain total fell by roughly $1.75B over the seven-day comparison window. Ethereum gas was 0.15 Gwei at the publication cutoff, leaving the direct transaction-cost hurdle low for mainnet deposits, withdrawals, or rebalancing. Low gas does not remove the market, smart-contract, asset, or redemption risks of a position.

Greed at 63 sits alongside a negative weekly tape. That combination supports selectivity, especially when a displayed rate relies on reward emissions, a tokenized-asset wrapper, an isolated collateral market, a maturity trade, or constrained exits.

Top Yields on Portals Explorer

This week, we highlight five live opportunities on Portals Explorer. The selection includes two Base tokenized-stock strategy wrappers from the current campaign, a fixed-maturity principal-token position on Arbitrum, and two USD-denominated Ethereum positions with different lending and allocation mechanics.

1. SPCX SuperVault (Base)

SPCX SuperVault on Base is offering a 23.04% APY with $143.84K in TVL. The vault holds SPCXc and is presented as a Superform strategy wrapper for SpaceX-linked exposure within the Base tokenized-stocks campaign.

The live rate was below the 23.90% seven-day average, and the page attributes the displayed return to reward APY rather than base APY.

2. NVDA SuperVault (Base)

NVDA SuperVault on Base is offering a 17.76% APY with $438.72K in TVL. The vault holds NVDAC and is a separate Superform strategy wrapper for NVIDIA-linked exposure in the same campaign.

The 17.76% rate was close to but below its 18.14% seven-day average. The live page showed 0.16% base APY and 17.59% reward APY, so users should distinguish the reward component from tokenized-stock exposure. Issuer and access terms, NVDAC price and liquidity, strategy, Superform contracts, reward changes, and redemption capacity are material risks.

3. PT Staked USDai 25FEB2027 (Arbitrum)

PT Staked USDai 25FEB2027 on Arbitrum is offering an 8.89% APY with $36.56M in TVL. It is a Pendle principal-token position linked to Staked USDai and has a stated 25 February 2027 maturity.

The observed rate was below the 9.48% seven-day average. A principal-token position has maturity and redemption mechanics that differ from a continuously compounding deposit.

4. Spark Blue Chip USDC Vault (Ethereum)

Spark Blue Chip USDC Vault on Ethereum is offering a 4.46% APY with $10.87M in TVL. It is a SparkDAO-curated MetaMorpho ERC-4626 vault that allocates USDC among Morpho Blue markets.

The current rate was above the 2.87% seven-day average, which is a change rather than a promise of persistence. Users should assess USDC, borrower collateral, curator allocation decisions and fees, Morpho Blue markets, oracle design, liquidity, smart contracts, and variable-rate risk.

5. Morpho USDC / WBTC (Ethereum)

Morpho USDC / WBTC on Ethereum is offering a 5.16% APY with $59.82M in TVL. It is an isolated Morpho Blue market where lenders supply USDC against WBTC collateral.

WBTC custodian and bridge exposure, BTC price moves, the oracle, liquidations, Morpho contracts, liquidity, and variable-rate dynamics are all relevant.

Explore Tokenized Stocks on Base on Portals

The Portals and Base campaign brings tokenized stocks and the DeFi opportunities they power into one interface.

A tokenized asset, its strategy wrapper, and a lending market are separate layers. Each can introduce issuer, eligibility, liquidity, pricing, oracle, contract, and redemption considerations.

Interactive Brokers Launches ETH Staking for Eligible Clients

Interactive Brokers announced that eligible Interactive Brokers LLC clients can stake Ethereum through the Staking Dashboard in Client Portal. The firm says zerohash provides the staking service, and rewards, when earned, are credited as additional staked cryptocurrency.

The change adds a live staking route inside a multi-asset brokerage interface, but availability varies by affiliate and client country of residence. It is an access development, not a fixed-return product: eligibility, service terms, staking and unstaking timing, and ETH price risk remain relevant.

Aave Governance Proposal Would Add Native Bitcoin Collateral via Babylon

A Babylon-authored Aave governance ARFC published on 14 October proposes onboarding native BTC as collateral on Aave V4 through Trustless Bitcoin Vaults. The design would keep BTC in Bitcoin Taproot UTXOs and use a restricted internal ERC-20 accounting unit inside the integration rather than wrapping, bridging, or placing the BTC with a custodian.

This is a proposal, not a launched lending market. Risk parameters and further governance votes are pending. The proposed liquidation design would use WBTC at launch for post-liquidation settlement, which is why native-collateral mechanics, the restricted representation, and the settlement asset should be assessed separately.

CFTC Opens Comment Process on Crypto Asset Market Frameworks

The CFTC’s Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeks comment on Regulation Crypto Asset Transactions and Regulation Crypto Asset Markets. It asks how the agency could approach certain leveraged, margined, or financed retail crypto-asset transactions under the Commodity Exchange Act and a purpose-built crypto asset market registration category.

The notice is a rulemaking consultation, not a rule that is already effective and not an authorization of a particular DeFi protocol. Comments are due within 60 days of its Federal Register publication, so the development is best read as an input window for potential future action rather than settled market structure.

Tether Invests in EFY Finance’s Seed Round

Tether announced an investment in EFY Finance’s seed round on 13 October. EFY describes itself as stablecoin-focused financial infrastructure offering cross-border payments, accounts, custody, wallets, cards, and on- and off-ramps across Latin America.

The companies state that EFY supports local-account settlement in 17 countries and serves more than 25,000 active individual and business accounts. Those operational figures and the intended expansion are company claims, not proof of future institutional adoption, but the investment is a concrete distribution and infrastructure development for stablecoin use cases.

UNCX Vesting V2 Incident Highlights Shared Contract Risk

Security firm Blockaid identified an Ethereum exploit of a shared UNCX Network Vesting V2 pool on 14 October. Roughly $86K was removed in one transaction across five tokens, with about $3.25M still in the affected contract when the activity was detected.

UNCX’s subsequent incident update is the primary project trail. The reported target was a shared vesting pool rather than individual locks or core liquidity-lock features. Teams using affected shared vesting contracts should seek direct status confirmation, because the observed Ethereum loss and remaining-at-risk figure do not by themselves establish a final loss total or recovery outcome.

Chain Performance Analysis

Ethereum held $49.79B in DeFi TVL, equal to 55.7% of the cross-chain total, after a 2.40% weekly decline. Its scale continues to anchor lending, liquid staking, vault infrastructure, and stablecoin liquidity, even as the broader comparison moved lower.

Base was the only one of the six charted chains with a material positive move, rising 0.66% to $6.14B and edging Solana’s $5.94B. Tron held $5.58B after a 1.89% decline, BSC held $5.47B after a 0.78% decline, and Bitcoin held $4.37B after a 0.04% increase. Solana had the largest weekly decrease in the group at 3.88%.

These are aggregate capital observations, not position-level measures of executable depth, price impact, withdrawal capacity, or user activity. The tokenized-stock campaign is one specific category within Base rather than a direct explanation for Base’s aggregate TVL movement.

Top DeFi Protocols

Lido remained the largest protocol family at $23.46B, followed by Aave V3 at $16.92B and Morpho Blue at $11.04B. The chart shows the concentration of the largest tracked balances in liquid staking and lending.

WBTC held $9.52B, Binance Staked ETH held $9.01B, Sky Lending held $5.67B, and Ethena USDe held $4.69B. These systems have materially different collateral, redemption, governance, counterparty, and operating models. TVL compares scale, not protocol risk, revenue, liquidity quality, or suitability for a particular user.

Looking Ahead

Brokerage Staking Eligibility and Terms

Interactive Brokers’ launch makes eligibility, service terms, ETH staking and unstaking timing, and entity-specific availability worth monitoring. The product is live for eligible Interactive Brokers LLC clients, but that is not the same as universal availability or a stated fixed yield.

Native Bitcoin Collateral Governance

The next concrete signal for the Babylon proposal will be Aave governance progress and the release of risk parameters for the two proposed spokes. Until those steps occur, the integration should be treated as an architecture proposal rather than a market that users can access.

Policy Comments and Incident Follow-Through

The CFTC comment period will shape the next factual record around its proposed crypto-asset market frameworks, while UNCX users need updates on contract mitigation and project-level exposure. In both cases, a proposal or preliminary incident report should not be mistaken for a final operating rule or final loss figure.
